What to look for in padel shoes
- The sole: most padel courts are artificial grass with sand. A herringbone (zigzag) sole grips best on sandy turf. An omni sole, with small studs, suits courts with little sand. A hybrid mixes both. If you're not sure, ask your venue how much sand its courts have.
- Side-to-side support: padel is all quick lateral moves. Look for a firm midfoot, a reinforced toe and a heel that doesn't lift when you side-step.
- Cushioning: the LTA recommends a sturdy outer sole with some cushioning.
- Not running shoes: they don't grip sideways and make it easier to roll an ankle. Clay-court tennis shoes work, because they use a similar herringbone sole.
- Replace them when the tread on the toe and outsole wears smooth.

3. adidas Crazyquick LS: lightweight

Do you need padel shoes to start?
No. For your first few sessions, trainers with good sideways grip will do, and clay-court tennis shoes are a good substitute. Buy padel shoes once you're playing regularly. New to the game? Read how to play padel.
